Safe zone checker for TikTok, Reels and Shorts

Drop an image or a video into this safe zone checker and see where TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts place their buttons, username and caption over a vertical frame. Draw a box around your title or captions to check that nothing important sits under the app's interface.

  1. 1

Drop a frame or a video

Use a screenshot of your edit, a thumbnail or the video itself and scrub to the frame you want. It stays in your browser.

  2. 2

    Switch between platforms

TikTok, Reels and Shorts cover different parts of the screen: the button column on the right, the caption and username at the bottom, the tabs at the top.

  3. 3

Mark your text and move it

Drag a box around a title or a caption line. The checker says which covered zone it touches, so you know what to move before exporting.

What the safe zones are, and why they are approximate

Every short-form app draws its interface on top of the video: like, comment and share buttons in a column on the right, the account name and caption at the bottom, navigation tabs at the top. Anything under those elements is hard to read or hidden, which is why captions and titles belong in the middle band of the frame.

The exact size of each zone depends on the phone, the language and how long the caption is, so these overlays are an approximation drawn on the conservative side. ClipFlap places captions, cover titles and credits inside the same margins when it renders a clip.

Safe zone questions

What is the TikTok safe zone?+

It is the part of a 1080×1920 frame that stays visible around TikTok's interface: roughly everything below the top tabs, above the caption area at the bottom and left of the button column on the right.

Are Reels and Shorts safe zones the same as TikTok's?+

They are close but not identical. Reels keeps a larger bottom area for the caption, and Shorts places its buttons slightly differently, so check each platform when one edit is posted to all three.

Is my video uploaded to check it?+

No. The image or video is displayed by your browser only. Nothing is sent to ClipFlap or any other server.

Where should captions go in a vertical video?+

In the middle band, roughly between the top 10 % and the bottom 20 % of the frame, and away from the right edge. That keeps them clear of the interface on all three platforms.
