Clip planner: how many clips to cut from one episode

Type the length of a podcast, stream or interview and pick where you post: this clip planner suggests how many clips to cut from one episode and shows the longest clip TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts accept, so the plan fits every platform at once.

  1. 1

    Enter the episode length

Hours and minutes of the recording, or the part of it you want to clip.

  2. 2

    Pick your platforms

TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts or several at once. The strictest length limit applies when you post the same clip everywhere.

  3. 3

Use the plan as a starting point

The count follows a simple rule, about one clip per five minutes of recording. Dense conversations hold more good moments; long housekeeping holds fewer.

Why about one clip per five minutes

Most long-form conversations contain a complete, self-contained moment every few minutes: an answer with its question, a story with its ending, a claim with its setup. Planning around one clip per five minutes keeps the bar at moments that stand on their own instead of padding the calendar with fragments.

This is the same starting rule ClipFlap uses when it reads an episode, with a floor of three clips and a ceiling of fifteen. The real number then follows the content: an hour of tight interview can yield more, an hour with long breaks fewer.

Clip planning questions

How many clips should I post from one podcast episode?+

A common starting point is one clip per five minutes of conversation, between three and fifteen per episode. Post the strongest first and spread the rest across the week rather than all at once.

How long can a TikTok, Reel or Short be?+

Each platform's limit is shown in the planner with its source and the date it was checked, because the limits change. When the same clip goes to all three, the shortest limit applies.

Is a shorter clip always better?+

No. A clip should be as long as the moment needs: a complete answer at 45 seconds beats a cut-off one at 20. The platform limit is a ceiling, not a target.

Why is a one-minute video flagged as too short?+

Under a minute there is rarely a separate moment to extract; the video already is the clip. ClipFlap itself needs at least a minute of source.
